A prototype of a project I made as a tribute to SOPHIE. It was part of a larger project called “Frame the Body: Synthetise the Real”. The essay explores the concept of technogenesis and its influence on our understanding of ourselves as human beings. Technogenesis refers to the process by which technology shapes and transforms human evolution and cultural development. The rise of digital technologies has blurred the boundaries between our physical and digital selves, leading to new ways of representing ourselves and our identities. This evolution of technogenesis has both positive and negative implications, offering new opportunities for self-expression while raising questions about the impact of technology on our sense of self and relationships with others. Donna Haraway’s argument for becoming post-human emphasizes the importance of technology and artificiality in the evolution of the human body, suggesting that the line between natural and artificial will become increasingly blurred.
The goal was to juxtapose SOPHIE’s song with its message about not being ashamed of the artificial, and which announces in filthy, synthy style that what appears as fake can be just as authentic as what we view as real: it’s simply about adjusting your own stuck-in-the-past perception.
