The Meeting (2020) was created in collaboration with Lana Brady during the pandemic for our Media Lab class. The assignment was to design an interactive website using Wix that explored narrative storytelling. We chose to reflect on our own experiences with online learning during the height of Zoom classes, blending humor and poignancy to comment on both digital education and the broader social climate of the time.
The story centers around six fictional students in a Zoom classroom. Two of them—the overachiever and the laid-back guy—are fully interactive narratives with multiple endings. By inviting users to navigate these branching paths, we aimed to challenge archetypes and stereotypes, reminding the audience that people are often more complex than first impressions suggest. Think The Breakfast Club, reimagined for the era of remote learning.
The remaining four characters are represented through looping visuals and audio soundbites, offering a glimpse into their personalities. I was responsible for the visual design and animation, using EbSynth and Premiere Pro to bring the two main characters to life. I also mixed some of the audio and recreated the Zoom interface using Photoshop and custom Wix elements to enhance immersion. Lana wrote the character scripts and managed the structure of the interactive site, connecting the various pages to form a cohesive narrative experience.
